Saint Lucia, often referred to as the “Helen of the West Indies”, is a breathtakingly beautiful Island located North of Martinique and South of St. Vincent. Positioned at 14°N and 61°W the island features a stunning landscape with lush rainforest, The world’s only drive-in volcano, the Iconic Twin Peaks known as the Pitons, and pristine beaches. Home to 179,744 people, Saint Lucia covers an area of 620 km² with Castries serving as its capital.

The island was first inhabited by the Caribs and the Arawaks, who were skilled farmers and fishermen. It was later explored by the Europeans in the 15th Century, thus, creating the island’s fascinating history. The British and French fought over control of St Lucia for centuries and became British territory in 1814. After a long and difficult battle for liberty, the island triumphantly achieved independence on February 22, 1979. Today, it proudly stands as a member of the Commonwealth, and celebrates its journey of sovereignty annually.

This gem of the Caribbean has consistently been recognized as one of the world’s top travel destinations, achieving several accolades including The World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination award 16 times. The island is also home of the World’s Fastest woman, Julien Alfred.

Language

The official language of St. Lucia is English. However, a significant portion of the population also speaks a French- based Creole language called Kwéyòl, often referred to as patios.

In Saint Lucia, the local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), ensuring easy and convenient transactions for visitors. US1 = XCD2.65

The island enjoys warm weather year-round, with temperatures averaging between 77°F (25° C) and 86°F (30°C).
